                                                                                        Shorinjin-Ryu Saito Ninjutsu

First and foremost, this is a battlefield art.  It was designed with terrain, weather, multiple attackers, psychological warfare, and weapons in mind.  It has been used and proven in ancient and more recent times (please read bio).  It is composed of ritual dances, tai-justu and weapon schemes.  The art focuses on the complete martial artist from the concept of how to walk  properly to the indomitable mind-set while under duress.

What we focus on:

  • First premise: Awareness.
  • Three requirements:  Composure under Pressure, Having no openings and Decisiveness of Action.
  • Five principles:  Death circle, defend area not attacked, capture the mind, unbalanced circle,  Kill, immobilize or come along.

Development:

There have been several interesting  influences  on Saito Ninjutsu since it was introduced in Hawaii.  In Honolulu, Mr Saito Sr. studied with Professor William Chow, David Nuuhiwa and Professor Okazaki and was much impressed with an exhibition given by Gozo Shioda. Advanced principles from some of the below arts are taught when taijutsu basics are mastered.

  • Judo (Okazaki styling)
  • Jujustu
  • Shinkeido
  • Yawara

  • Aikido (Yoshinkan)
  • Fushido
  • Fundementals of kenjutsu
  • Tengu ryu kenjutsu

  • Classical and improvised weapons
  • Strategies and tactics
  • Ritual dances
  • Meditations
